It’s Friday, Florida State fans. For those of you winding down your work week, we’ll try to help you make it to the weekend. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook wasn’t expected to be the first back taken in the 2017 NFL Draft, but he was expected to be a surefire first-rounder. That didn’t not happen.

Cook was not selected with the first 32 picks in the 2017 NFL Draft on Thursday night and will hope to hear his name Friday as the draft continues with the second and third round. Cook rushed for a school-record 4,464 yards in his FSU career and was a Consensus All-American as a junior last year.

The draft resumes at 7 p.m. EST on Friday. Other FSU players hoping to hear their names called on Friday include defensive end DeMarcus Walker and tackle Roderick Johnson.

Between the Lines

Both the FSU men and women’s tennis team won at the ACC Tournament on Thursday by 4-2 scores to advance to the quarterfinals. The FSU men defeated Clemson while the women took down Virginia.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will compete in the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville. Both the FSU men’s and women’s tennis teams will face North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. FSU baseball opens a 3-game series at home against Virginia at 6 p.m. EST in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra. FSU softball takes on North Carolina.

News and Notes

FSU women’s golf will be one of 18 teams to play in the Columbus Regional of the NCAA Tournament, which takes place May 8-10.

The FSU men’s and women’s team both lost to North Carolina at the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Florida State closer Drew Carlton was among 40 relievers named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List this week.

FSU running back Dalvin Cook was selected 41st overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFL Draft.

FSU defensive end DeMarcus Walker was selected 51st overall by the Denver Broncos on Friday night.

Florida State took the series opener from Virginia on Friday night 6-4, thanks to a 2-run blast from Drew Mendoza.
