Sunday Seminole Summary: FSU Soccer Advances to National Championship Match

For the second straight season and third time in four years, Florida State soccer will play for a national championship. The Seminoles clinched their spot in Santa Clara on Friday night in a matchup of No. 1 seeds with a 1-0 win over Rutgers.

The match’s lone goal came in the 71st minute from Jaelin Howell off a corner kick. Rutgers had multiple chances, but FSU goalkeeper Cristina Roque came up huge with four saves, including two difficult ones with about 13 minutes left.

Both teams finished with nine shots. FSU will face BYU in the title game on Monday night.

The Cougars beat reigning national champion Santa Clara on penalty kicks to advance. The contest begins at 8 p.m. ET and airs on ESPNU.
