When Florida State began the 2017 season, junior pitcher Drew Carlton probably didn’t expect to find himself on a Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, but that’s exactly where he is.

Carlton was one of 40 relievers named to National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association list on Wednesday. Carlton began the year as FSU’s ace and was the opening day starter, but was moved to the bullpen after struggles there abounded.

For the season, Carlton has posted a team-best 1.64 ERA in 19 appearances. Carlton has all three of FSU’s saves and 31 strikeouts in 33 innings, compared to just seven walks. Carlton has just a 2-3 record, but did not give up an earned run in two of those losses.

The Stopper of the Year finalists will be announced on June 7 and the award will be presented on June 17. Carlton and the Seminoles will be home for three games against Virginia, beginning on Friday.
