Lead Story
Florida State softball continued to roll on Friday, busting out the big bats for a pair of run-rule victories to open the Unconquered Invitational. The Seminoles defeated Elon 15-1 and Lipscomb 13-0 in two games that lasted just five innings.
12 of FSU’s 15 runs in the first game came over the first two innings. Leslie Farris, Carsyn Gordon and Savannah Parker all homered. It was the first of Parker’s career. Gordon and Cali Harrod each had three hits in the win.
In the second game, FSU scored 10 of its 13 runs over the first two frames. Harrod, Sydney Sherrill and Anna Shelnutt all left the yard in the victory. Dani Morgan was 3-for-3 with a run scored.
FSU will face Samford and Lipscomb in the Unconquered Invitational on Saturday.
Between the Lines
In addition to FSU softball, both FSU swimming and diving and FSU track and field continued the ACC Championships. FSU baseball rallied past Youngstown State, 4-2. FSU men’s tennis defeated Clemson 4-0 while the women fell to Duke, 5-2.
On the Agenda
In addition to the Unconquered Invitational, FSU track and field and FSU swimming and diving will wrap up the ACC Championships on Saturday. FSU baseball will play a doubleheader with Youngstown State, with the first game beginning at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU hoops visits North Carolina at 3:45 p.m. EST on CBS. FSU beach volleyball begins the 2019 season with the FSU Tournament and matches against Tulane, Cal Poly and LSU. FSU men’s golf begins the Seminole Intercollegiate.
News and Notes
North Carolina defeated FSU hoops in Chapel Hill on Saturday, 77-59.
FSU baseball blasted Youngstown State in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, 24-2. FSU completed the sweep with a 7-4 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
FSU men’s track and field claimed the ACC Indoor co-championship while the women finished in second.
FSU women’s swimming and diving finished sixth at the ACC Championships on Saturday night.
