The Daily Nole — April 7, 2018: FSU Softball’s ACC Streak Snapped at 36

Florida State softball’s ACC winning streak came to an end at 36 games on Friday after splitting a doubleheader with Pittsburgh.

It looked as though the streak would end at 35 as the Seminoles trailed 1-0 entering the final frame in the first game. After Morgan Klaevemann and Carsyn Gordon got on base however, Sydney Sherrill delivered a walk-off 2-run double to give FSU a 2-1 victory.

The second game required eight innings as the teams were scoreless after seven. In extra innings, Olivia Gray delivered the winning hit for the Panthers to score Marissa DeMatteo in a 1-0 win for Pittsburgh.

The loss for FSU was its first against ACC competition since falling to Louisville on May 7, 2016. The teams will wrap up the 3-game series on Sunday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU softball, FSU men’s tennis fell to Virginia Tech on Friday, 4-3, while the women topped Syracuse, 4-2. FSU beach volleyball recorded 5-0 wins over Florida Atlantic, UNC-Wilmington and TCU. FSU baseball topped Georgia Tech in Atlanta, 10-2.

On the Agenda

FSU beach volleyball will host UAB and Georgia State on Saturday. FSU baseball takes on Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU’s Sydney Sherrill hit four doubles on Friday to break Alex Powers’ school-record.

FSU baseball fell to Georgia Tech on Saturday, 2-1.

The start time for the baseball contest between FSU and Georgia Tech has been moved to 4 p.m. EST.

Albany guard David Nichols will transfer to Florida State.
