Florida State’s quest to win a fourth straight ACC series got off to a good start on Friday night in Atlanta as the Seminoles powered past Georgia Tech, 10-2.

Cole Sands picked up the win for an FSU team that improved to 24-7 and 8-5 in ACC play. Florida State also got over .500 in ACC play on the road with the win.

The Good: For the second outing in a row after a rough patch, FSU starter Cole Sands was solid, throwing a career-high tying seven innings in the win. The bats continued to produce for the Seminoles with 10 runs on 12 hits, which included four for extra bases.

The Bad: Georgia Tech missed a lot of opportunities on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets committed a pair of errors in the field and allowed one unearned run. Despite being outhit 12-6, Georgia Tech actually left more base runners than the Seminoles with nine to FSU’s eight.

The Ugly: Xzavion Curry gave Georgia Tech an adequate start on the mound, allowing four runs and three earned in five innings. The bullpen however, left plenty to be desired by yielding six runs in just four innings of work to turn a competitive game into a laugher.

Studs of the Game: Sands get a nod for FSU for his performance on the mound, but at the plate, Nick Derr and Jackson Lueck each homered. Derr finished with two hits and three RBIs while Lueck had two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Rhett Aplin was 3-for-5 for the Seminoles with a run scored. Joey Bart had a solo home run and scored both runs for the Yellow Jackets.

Duds of the Game: Georgia Tech reliever Jonathan Hughes allowed runs to all three batters he faced and didn’t record an out. Colin Hall was 0-for-4 at the plate with a pair of strikeouts for the Yellow Jackets while Baron Radcliff struck out in each of his three at-bats. Cooper Swanson was 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts for FSU in the loss.
