The Daily Nole — July 14, 2017: FSU Women Unveil Non-Conference Slate for 2017-18

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. As you start making plans for the weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Fresh off a second trip to the Elite Eight in three years, Florida State’s women’s hoops team unveiled its non-conference schedule on Monday.

The schedule includes four games against in-state teams headlined by a Nov. 17 contest at Florida. FSU takes on Iowa in Iowa City in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 17. The Seminoles will also take on three teams in the non-conference that reached the NCAA Tournament a season ago and all will come within a 2-week stretch.

FSU will host Arizona State on Dec. 10. The Seminoles beat the Sun Devils in the Sweet 16 in 2015 by a 66-65 score.

FSU also visits Texas, who won in Tallahassee in overtime last season, on Dec. 17 and Creighton on Dec. 21. The season begins at home on Nov. 10 against North Florida.

FSU’s Derwin James and Tarvarus McFadden were each named to the preseason watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award.

FSU landed 4-star center Verdis Brown on Friday.
