The Daily Nole — July 11, 2017: FSU Target Fields is 2018’s Top Player

Florida State’s most coveted target is now ranked the top player in all the country for 2018, according to the 247Sports rankings.

In its new rankings released Monday, 5-star quarterback Justin Fields moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 nationally. The 6-3, 220-pound target from Kennesaw is actually now the fourth best player, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. That’s because cornerback Patrick Surtain moved up from a 4- to a 5-star per 247Sports.

The Seminoles are in a tight battle for the services of Fields and considered by some to be his leader. Other teams in the hunt include Auburn, Georgia and Florida. Fields decommitted from Penn State on June 6.

FSU center Alec Eberle has been named to the preseason Rimington Trophy watch list.

Florida State’s Ryan Izzo has been named to the John Mackey Award watch list. The award annually goes to the nation’s top tight end.

FSU women’s golfer Morgane Metraux is among 20 amateurs set to compete in the U.S. Women’s Open, according to reports.
