Saturday was absolutely loaded with news about Florida State sports teams, and we’ve got you covered for all of it. For the latest in FSU athletics, keep it here as we update the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State softball captured its fourth straight ACC Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels. It is the 15th ACC Tournament championship in school history.

Per usual, Jessica Warren sparked the FSU offense with a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. More runs were brought in with Dani Morgan’s RBI triple in the same inning and Alex Powers’ 2-run shot in the sixth inning. North Carolina managed three runs in the top of the seventh, but Meghan King closed out the game with a strikeout.

Five different Seminoles were named to the all-tournament team, including Dani Morgan, Anna Shelnutt, Carsyn Gordon, Jessica Burroughs, and Meghan King. Morgan was named tournament MVP as well.

Between the Lines

Florida State baseball split the first two games of the Wake Forest series on Saturday. The first game was the conclusion of a contest that started on Friday but was delayed due to inclement weather. The Seminoles lost that one 4-3, but came back strong in the second game with a 4-0 shutout victory. Tyler Holton pitched a full nine innings in the latter.

Both men’s and women’s tennis saw their seasons end Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Championship. While the men’s contests against TCU had little suspense, the women’s team put up an intense fight against Auburn. Each team either matched or exceeded their win totals from last year.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field wraps up the ACC Championships. The baseball team finishes up the Wake Forest series with the rubber match at 1 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter named Derwin James the No. 5 overall player in college football for 2017. Tarvarus McFadden was 17th overall and Deondre Francois sneaked in the list at 47th overall.

FSU baseball fell to Wake Forest on Sunday, 10-9.

Florida State’s track and field team finished third in the men’s team competition and second on the women’s side.

According to FSU baseball, Saturday was Florida State’s first shutout of Wake Forest since a 10-0 win in 1997.

FSU softball earned the No. 4 national seed and will open the NCAA Tournament on Friday against Princeton.

3-star defensive tackle Lloyd Murray, Jr. has decomitted from Florida State.
