What will likely be the final home game of 2017 for Florida State and what will definitely be the final home game of the regular season did not go as the Seminoles had hoped as they dropped a second 1-run game in as many days in a 10-9 loss to Wake Forest.

With the Mother’s Day defeat, FSU falls to 33-20 and just 12-14 in ACC play. The Seminoles will close out the regular season with three games at Louisville, beginning on Thursday.

Good: After pitching dominated the first two games, the bats came to life on Sunday as the two teams combined for 19 runs and 27 hits. Considering all the hits, the Seminoles and Demon Deacons combined to leave just 17 runners. The teams also drew a combined 10 walks and three total batters were hit.

The Bad: Entering Sunday’s game, both Wake Forest starter Connor Johnstone and FSU starter Drew Parrish had been in nice grooves. On Sunday however, neither started lasted more than 3 1/3 innings. Johnstone allowed six runs, but only three earned. Parrish allowed six in just three innings of work.

The Ugly: With the loss, FSU now has to sweep Louisville next weekend to avoid its first losing season in conference since joining the ACC. The Seminoles will also finish 6-9 against ACC opponents at home this season.

Studs of the Game: Wake Forest’s Bruce Steel hit a pair of home runs to finish with five RBIs. Jonathan Pryor and Logan Harvey each had three hits for the Demon Deacons. For FSU, Quincy Nieporte was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Taylor Walls had two hits, two runs and three RBIs. One day after a solid performance on the mound, Tyler Holton was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Duds of the Game: Parrish had an outing to forget for FSU, but so did Chase Haney who allowed two runs without recording an out. Drew Mendoza was 0-for-4 at the dish for FSU. Wake Forest’s Patrick Frick was 0-for-2 at the plate, but had an error in the field that led three unearned FSU runs.
