The Daily Nole — March 18, 2019: King No-Hits Irish on St. Patty’s Day

Lead Story

On St. Patrick’s Day, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish couldn’t manage a hit against Florida State softball.

The Seminoles took the series on Sunday with a 5-0 victory over Notre Dame. Meghan King tossed a no-hitter for FSU without walking a batter and striking out three. The only baserunner for the Fighting Irish reached by way of error.

Elizabeth Mason drove in three of the five FSU runs in the victory. Cali Harrod and Carsyn Gordon each scored twice. Sydney Sherrill was 2-for-3 at the plate.

With the win, FSU improves to 27-3 and 2-1 in ACC play. The Seminoles host Florida A&M on Tuesday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU softball, FSU baseball defeated NC State in Raleigh on Sunday, 7-5. FSU men’s tennis topped Notre Dame 4-3 while the women topped the Fighting Irish, 6-1. FSU men’s golf opened the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in Palm City.

On the Agenda

News and Notes

FSU baseball fell to No. 21 in both the Baseball America and D1Baseball Polls. FSU dropped 13 spots from No. 1 to No. 14 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. FSU dropped 10 spots to No. 17 in the NCBWA Poll.

FSU hoops will finish 10th in the AP Poll and is currently 11th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports on Monday.

The NCAA Women’s Tournament field will be unveiled on Monday night.

FSU hoops’ first round contest in the NCAA Tournament against Vermont begins at 2 p.m. EST on TBS.
