It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. As your week nears its end, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post may be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After ranking outside the top 100 in both total and scoring offense, Florida State football will be paying big money for what it hopes is a significant upgrade.

According to a report from Noles247, new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles is set to make $1 million annually for the duration of his 3-year contract. Briles would owe FSU $500,000 if he left for another job aside from an NFL head coaching gig.

There is language in the contract that seems to affirm that Briles has disclosed any past incidents — either legally or by NCAA rules — to head coach Willie Taggart. The language is likely a measure to cover FSU’s bases in the event that further details emerge regarding a past Baylor sexual assault scandal.

Briles was an assistant under father Art Briles, but has been accused of no wrongdoing in that matter. Briles will become the highest paid assistant on the Florida State staff.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s hoops will host No. 4 Louisville on Thursday night. The game begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.
