Happy hump day, Florida State fans. As your day and week continue on, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post may be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After receiving ACC Rookie of the Year in 2016, one notable college football publication has Florida State redshirt junior quarterback Deondre Francois closer to the middle of the pack than the top when it comes to the conference’s best signal-callers.

According to a piece from Athlon Sports on Monday that ranks the best starting quarterbacks in the ACC, Francois came in fifth. Of course, the interesting note here is that Francois was selected as the FSU starter over second-year players James Blackman and Bailey Hockman.

As a redshirt freshman in 2016, Francois passed for 3,350 yards and accounted for 25 total touchdowns while leading FSU to a top-10 national ranking and an Orange Bowl victory. Francois played in just one game last season before injuring his patella tendon.

NC State’s Ryan Finley topped the list, followed by Virginia Tech’s Josh Jackson, Kelly Bryant of Clemson and Syracuse’s Erig Dungey. Florida State will face each of those four passers this season.
