The Daily Nole — Aug. 7, 2018: FSU Soccer Picked Second in ACC

It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. As your week continues to roll along, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State soccer received more first-place votes than any other team in the ACC among the conference’s 14 head coaches, but overall were not picked to win the conference.

FSU was picked to finish second with 174 total points. North Carolina is the preseason favorite with 183 total points, but received just four first-place votes.

Virginia was picked third with 173 total points and three first-place votes. The other two first-place votes went to Duke, who was picked fourth.

As far as individuals went, FSU junior forward Deyna Castellanos and senior defender Natalia Kuikka each earned preseason All-ACC honors. FSU opens the season against Vanderbilt on Aug. 16.

According to a social media post from his father, FSU linebacker Amari Gainer will miss six weeks with a fractured foot.

FSU football’s Cam Akers and Levonta Taylor were each listed among ESPN’s top 50 players for 2018.
