It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. As your day goes on, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Athletic programs tend to get their recognition for what they do on the field, court, diamond, track or pool, but Florida State athletes are performing at an all-time high in the classroom.

According to a release, FSU athletes recorded all-time bests for cumulative grade-point average and academic progress rate. When it came to GPA, FSU athletes averaged better than a 3.0 for the 2016-17 academic year. The 985 APR score is also a school-record.

“It’s very satisfying,” athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a release. “Just like we set goals on the playing field, we’ve got to set goals in the classroom. The better we can get, the better our student-athletes’ experience is going to be during their time at Florida State.”

Between the Lines

FSU baseball was defeated by Samford to open the Tallahassee Regional on Friday night, 7-6.

On the Agenda

Both FSU baseball and softball will play elimination games on Saturday. FSU baseball takes on Mississippi State in the Tallahassee Regional at noon EST on ESPNU. FSU softball faces Georgia in the Women’s College World Series at 2:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.
