It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As your weekend wraps up, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

College baseball’s all-time winningest coach may have walked the Dick Howser Stadium field for the last time on Saturday. The legendary Mike Martin watched his Florida State team’s 2018 season end on a 3-run home run by Mississippi State’s Elijah MacNamee with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Bulldogs an improbable 3-2 victory in a Tallahassee Regional elimination game.

Martin surpassed legend Augie Garrido last month on the all-time wins list with 1,977. Martin, known affectionately as “11” closed the season by adding 11 more wins to that total.

At 74 years old, Martin has never managed to win that elusive national championship, but has won at least 40 games in each of his 39 seasons as head coach — an accomplishment unlikely to be paralleled. Martin has taken the Seminoles to the College World Series on 16 occasions.

After the game, Martin said he hoped for an extension, but sources tell The Daily Nole that the 2018 campaign was the last for the legend. Sources tell The Daily Nole that Martin will also have no say in his successor.

Between the Lines

In addition to the FSU baseball loss on Saturday, FSU softball won a pair of elimination games at the Women’s College World Series. FSU opened the day with a 7-2 win over No. 7 Georgia before closing the evening with a 4-1 win over No. 1 Oregon.

On the Agenda

FSU softball will take on UCLA in the Women’s College World Series on Sunday. The contest begins at 3:30 p.m. EST and airs on ESPN.

News and Notes

FSU softball topped UCLA 3-1 in the Women’s College World Series on Sunday, 3-1.

FSU softball picked up a second win over UCLA on Sunday and will play Washington in a best-of-three series for the national championship.
