The Daily Nole — June 4, 2018: FSU Softball Makes History

Lead Story

For the first time in program history, Florida State softball is in the national championship series. After dropping the opener of the Women’s College World Series to UCLA on Thursday night, the Seminoles won four games in two days, including two over the Bruins on Sunday, to advance.

The opponent for FSU, the No. 6 national seed, will be Washington. The Huskies are the No. 5 national seed and are 3-0 at the Women’s College World Series so far with two wins over Oklahoma and one over Oregon.

By advancing, FSU becomes the first ACC school ever to reach the Women’s College World Series final. Washington is no stranger to it, having reached the final three times and winning it in 2009.

Between the Lines

FSU softball collected a pair of wins over UCLA at the Women’s College World Series on Sunday to advance to the national championship series. After winning the first contest 3-1, the Seminoles took the second by a 12-6 score.

On the Agenda

FSU and Washington softball square off in the first game of the national championship series on Monday night at 7 p.m. EST. The contest will air on ESPN.
