The Daily Nole — May 25, 2018: 11 Noles Make Athlon’s All-ACC Team

It’s Friday, Florida State fans, and a big one at that. As your day goes on and your Memorial Day weekend get underway, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Prominent college football publication, Athlon Sports released its preseason All-ACC team this week and Florida State is well represented.

In total, 11 different Seminoles earned preseason honors from the publication. Only Clemson had more. Earning first-team honors for FSU was running back Cam Akers, cornerback Levonta Taylor and kicker Ricky Aguayo.

Making the publication’s second team were wide receiver Nyqwan Murray, defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas and as a punter returner, D.J. Matthews. Center Alec Eberle and defensive end Brian Burns were each selected to the third team. Running back Jacques Patrick, guard Landon Dickerson and cornerback Stanford Samuels III all made the fourth team.

FSU track and field began the NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will continue the preliminaries on Friday. FSU baseball takes on NC State in the ACC Tournament at 7 p.m. EST on Raycom Sports Network. FSU softball hosts LSU in the Tallahassee Super Regional. That contest begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ESPNU.

News and Notes

The winner of the ACC Tournament game between FSU and NC State will face Clemson in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Saturday.

Five FSU track and field athletes secured berths in the NCAA Championships on Thursday.

FSU senior women’s golfer Morgane Metraux has earned All-American Honorable Mention honors as named by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

FSU hoops forward Phil Cofer has been granted a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

LSU softball defeated Florida State in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional on Friday night, 6-5.

FSU baseball defeated NC State in the ACC Tournament on Friday night, 5-2. The Seminoles will face Clemson in the ACC semifinals on Saturday.
