The Daily Nole — April 26, 2018: NFL Draft Gets Underway

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. As your day moves along, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday night and most expect that Florida State will have a player hear his name called.

Safety Derwin James is expected to be the first FSU player off the board as most mock drafts have him going seventh overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Only the first round will take place on Thursday night.

Other Seminoles expecting to be drafted over the next few days include defensive end Josh Sweat, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, linebacker Matthew Thomas, cornerback Tarvarus McFadden, wide receiver Auden Tate and tight end Ryan Izzo. Others like safeties Ermon Lane, Nate Andrews and Trey Marshall, running back Ryan Green and linebackers Ro’Derrick Hoskins and Jacob Pugh seem like long shots.

The draft gets underway at 8 p.m. EST on Thursday night. It will air on ESPN and NFL Network.

Between the Lines

FSU softball fell at rival Florida on Wednesday night, 5-1.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will take part in the Penn Relays on Thursday. FSU women’s tennis will open the ACC Tournament against Virginia Tech.

News and Notes

FSU women’s golf will host an NCAA Regional on May 5-7.

FSU women’s tennis was defeated by Virginia Tech in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday, 4-3.

FSU safety Derwin James was selected 17th overall by the Los Angeles Chargers during Thursday’s NFL Draft.
