The Daily Nole — April 27, 2018: Sands Not in FSU Rotation for Miami

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. As you count down the minutes until the weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s weekend series at home against Miami will feature the same starting pitching rotation as last weekend.

Cole Sands, the usual Friday night starter, will continue to sit with tendinitis, but could be available on Sunday out of the bullpen, according to a release. Drew Parrish, a sophomore lefty, will start again on Friday.

Freshman C.J. Van Eyk will get the ball for Saturday’s contest. The Seminoles will turn to ACC wins leader Andrew Karp in the series finale on Sunday.

The Friday and Saturday night contests will begin at 6 p.m. EST while the finale begins at 1 p.m. EST on Sunday. FSU head coach Mike Martin is three wins away from surpassing Augie Garrido as the winningest coach in college baseball history. All games stream on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

FSU track and field kicked off the Penn Relays on Thursday. FSU women’s tennis was upset by Virginia Tech in the second round of the ACC Tournament, 4-3.

On the Agenda

In addition to the baseball contest with Miami, FSU track and field will continue the Penn Relays. FSU men’s tennis will take on Duke in the ACC Tournament. FSU softball will visit Notre Dame at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network.

News and Notes

FSU defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi was selected 75th overall on Friday night in the third round of the NFL Draft.

FSU baseball topped Miami on Friday night to open a 3-game series, 2-0.

FSU men’s tennis defeated Duke in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night, 4-1.
