The Daily Nole — April 28, 2018: FSU Softball Clinches Atlantic Division

Lead Story

It hasn’t been a perfect season in conference play like last, but Florida State softball managed to clinch the ACC’s Atlantic division on Friday night.

The Seminoles did so with a 9-2 win at Notre Dame and a 4-2 Louisville victory over Boston College. FSU needs just one more victory to clinch the ACC regular season crown for a sixth year in a row.

Jessie Warren, Cali Harrod and Zoe Casas all drove in a pair of runs for FSU in the win on Friday night. Morgan Klaevemann scored three times while Kylee Hanson earned the victory from the circle.

Abby Sweet scored a run and drove in another for Notre Dame in the loss. The teams will play the middle game of a 3-game set at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday. The contest airs on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU softball, FSU track and field continued the Penn Relays on Friday. FSU men’s tennis topped Duke in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, 4-1. FSU baseball shut out Miami, 2-0.

On the Agenda

In addition to FSU softball, FSU track and field will wrap up the Penn Relays and compete in the National Relay Championships in Fayetteville on Saturday. FSU men’s tennis takes on North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semifinals at 2 p.m. EST. FSU baseball hosts Miami at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Following Saturday’s win over Miami, FSU baseball coach Mike Martin is tied for the all-time wins record.

FSU baseball defeated Miami on Saturday night, 10-1.

FSU’s Rick Leonard was selected in the fourth round on the 2018 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

FSU defensive end Josh Sweat was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the NFL Draft at No. 130 overall.

The New England Patriots drafted FSU tight end Ryan Izzo in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.

Florida State’s Auden Tate was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

FSU softball clinched the ACC regular season title with an 11-2 win over Notre Dame.

FSU men’s tennis was defeated by North Carolina in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on Saturday, 4-0.
