The Daily Nole — April 9, 2018: FSU Softball Tops Pitt in Rubber Game

Lead Story

Florida State softball bounced back from its first ACC loss in 37 games in a big way on Sunday. After falling to Pittsburgh 1-0 in extra innings in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday night, FSU blanked the Panthers, 8-0.

The Seminoles needed just five innings to collect the win after blowing things open with a 6-run second inning. The frame was capped with a 3-run home run from Sydney Sherrill, who drove in four runs on the day. Shortstop Cali Harrod drove in three runs in the victory.

Kylee Hanson picked up the win, allowing just a hit while striking out eight in three innings of work. Up next for FSU is a home contest with rival Florida on Wednesday night.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, FSU baseball fell to Georgia Tech on Sunday, 16-3. FSU men’s tennis beat Virginia, 5-2, while the women topped Boston College by the same score.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s golf begins the Gary Koch Invitational on Monday.

News and Notes

The ACC will announce players of the week for various sports on Monday.

FSU baseball fell to No. 9 in this week’s Baseball America Poll and to 12th in the D1Baseball Poll. FSU fell four spots from No. 9 to No. 13 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. The NCBWA Poll will be released later.

4-star quarterback Sam Howell committed to FSU on Monday night.
