Georgia Tech Blasts FSU to Take Series, 16-3

After winning the series opener in convincing fashion, not much else went right for Florida State on its trip to Atlanta. Georgia Tech took the last two games, including the final contest on Sunday, 16-3.

The loss dropped the Seminoles to 24-9 on the season and 8-7 in ACC play. The next four games for the Seminoles are at home, beginning with rival Florida on Tuesday night.

The Good: One day after Connor Thomas mowed through the Seminoles, Tristin English gave another quality start for Georgia Tech. English yielded just a run on eight hits in six innings of work without walking a batter.

The Bad: The 16 runs allowed by Florida State tied the most given up by the Seminoles this season. Austin Pollock, the FSU starter, allowed four runs in four innings, but the bullpen was absolutely atrocious. In four innings of work, the four arms out of the FSU pen allowed a total of 12 runs.

The Ugly: Georgia Tech scored 16 runs on 11 hits, but that was aided by the Seminoles’ inability to find the strike zone. FSU hurlers allowed 12 walks and hit two batters.

Studs of the Game: Credit English for his quality start, but at the plate for Georgia Tech, Kyle McCann was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Austin Wilhite was 3-for-4 with a homer, a pair of runs and five RBIs. For FSU, Mike Salvatore was 3-for-4 with two of the three Seminole runs.

Duds of the Game: The FSU bullpen could collectively take this honor. The toughest days were for Jonah Scolaro and Shane Drohan. Scolaro allowed four runs in 2/3 of an inning. In 1 1/3 innings, Drohan gave up five runs. Georgia Tech reliever Andy Archer gave up two runs in one inning of work.
