The Daily Nole — April 4, 2018: FSU Baseball to Honor Negro Leagues vs. Dolphins

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. As your day chugs along, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s baseball program will be teaming with the Black Student Union to pay tribute to the Negro Leagues during Wednesday’s contest with Jacksonville.

FSU will wear hats that recognize the Negro League Museum in Kansas City and ask Fred Flowers, the first black player in FSU history, to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Flowers is memorialized as part of the Integration Statue outside of the Student Union.

The Black Student Union is celebrating its 50th year on campus. It opened a 5,600 square foot building in November.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST. The contest airs on ACC Network Extra.

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

On the Agenda

In addition to FSU baseball, FSU softball will host a doubleheader with Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.

News and Notes

FSU men’s track and field is No. 25 while the women are 19th in this week’s USTFCCA Poll.

FSU track and field redshirt senior Austin Droogsman was named ACC Field Performer of the Week honors.

FSU softball’s Meghan King was named ACC Pitcher of the Week.

FSU baseball defeated Jacksonville on Wednesday night, 6-2.

FSU defensive tackle Marvin Wilson will reportedly miss the remainder of the spring with a torn MCL.
