The Daily Nole — March 26, 2018: FSU Men’s Tennis Tops No. 1 Wake

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. As you begin a new week, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The nation’s top-ranked men’s tennis team was unable to become the first road team to win in Tallahassee this season as No. 1 Wake Forest fell to Florida State on Sunday, 4-3.

FSU trailed 2-0 and later 3-2 before Lucas Poullain and Chase Wood collected 3-set victories over Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri and Julian Zlobinsky, respectively. Also collecting wins for the Seminoles were Guy Iradukunda and Alex Knall.

No. 9 FSU now sits at 21-1 for the season and 5-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles will host Louisville on Friday.

Between the Lines

In addition to men’s tennis on Sunday, FSU softball topped Syracuse 6-5 to complete a 3-game sweep. FSU women’s golf finished ninth at the Clemson Invitational. FSU baseball topped North Carolina 9-4 to take a 3-game series.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

FSU remained fifth in the Baseball America Poll and seventh in the D1Baseball.com Poll. FSU climbed three spots to No. 9 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. FSU moved one spot from sixth to fifth in the NCBWA Poll.

Florida State outfielder Jackson Lueck has been named the ACC Player of the Week.

FSU basketball forwards Phil Cofer and Terance Mann were each named all-West Regional team.

FSU women’s basketball guard Imani Wright and forward Shakayla Thomas were each named AP All-American honorable mention honorees.

Imani Wright will compete in the Marine’s Women’s 3-Point Championship this Thursday at St. Mary’s University at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.

Florida State men’s golf redshirt senior Harry Ellis won the Georgia Cup played at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta on Sunday.
