Shakayla Thomas, Imani Wright Named AP All-Americans

The honors continue to pour in for Florida State women’s basketball. The Associated Press named senior forward Shakayla Thomas and redshirt senior guard Imani Wright as Honorable Mention All-Americans for the 2017-18 season.

Thomas and Wright were the two leading scorers this past season, averaging 17.8 points per game and 16.3 points per game respectively for the Seminoles. Thomas also dominated the boards with 6.7 rebounds per game. Wright gained notoriety for her 3-point scoring, where she shot over 38 percent shooting on a team-high 269 attempts.

For Thomas, this honor marks her third straight All-American selection. She was named by the Associated Press in 2017 and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association in 2016. Former point guard Leticia Romero is the only other FSU player to accomplish this feat.

Wright’s selection this year was the first of her career. She broke the Florida State school record for made 3-point attempts with 103 this season, far surpassing the previous high of 78 set by Courtney Ward during the 2010-11 season.

The Seminoles compiled a 26-7 overall record this past season and clinched another NCAA Tournament appearance. They fell in a shocking upset to the 11th-seeded Buffalo Bulls in the second round.
