It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As your weekend winds down, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The season may be over for Florida State on the hardwood, but the run by the men’s team was the deepest for the Seminoles in a long time.

FSU’s season ended with a 58-54 loss to Michigan in the Elite Eight on Saturday night. It was the first appearance in a regional final since losing to top-seeded Kentucky in 1993 by a score of 106-81.

For the sake of perspective, the last time that the Seminoles were one win away from the Final Four, they had yet to win a national championship in football and the man running the point guard position, Charlie Ward, had not yet won the school’s first Heisman Trophy. FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton was 44 years old and was in his third year as head coach of Miami.

Brandon Allen is the only player on the current FSU roster who was alive at the time. Informer by Snow was the top song on the Billboard music charts. President Bill Clinton had been in the White House for two months.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s loss to Michigan on Saturday, FSU men’s swimming and diving wrapped up the NCAA Championships. FSU track and field wrapped up the FSU Relays. FSU women’s golf continued the Clemson Invitational. FSU softball topped Syracuse, 6-0.

On the Agenda

FSU softball hosts Syracuse on Sunday to wrap up a 3-game series at noon EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball will be at North Carolina while FSU men’s tennis takes on Wake Forest. Both of those contests begin at 1 p.m. EST and air on ACC Network Extra. FSU women’s golf will wrap up the Clemson Invitational.

News and Notes

Michigan will play Loyola-Illinois in the first Final Four match-up.

Austin Pollock, a freshman pitcher, will start for FSU against North Carolina on Sunday.

FSU baseball defeated North Carolina on Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill, 9-4.
