The Daily Nole — Nov. 11, 2017: FSU Women Roll in Opener

Happy Veterans Day, Florida State fans. For those of you who have served, much is appreciated from us here at The Daily Nole. As you settle in to enjoy your weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics as we update the news and notes section of this post throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s basketball team entered the 2017-18 season having to replace some key pieces, but showed no ill-effects in its opener on Friday night as the Seminoles blasted North Florida, 109-51.

The contest for the Seminoles featured a school-record 36 points in the third quarter of the rout. Chatrice White paced FSU with 21 points and 12 rebounds, but Nicki Ekhomu wasn’t far behind with 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Imani Wright and TCU transfer A.J. Alix each scored 17 while Shakayla Thomas added 16 points and nine rebounds. Wright led the Seminoles with eight assists. Keonna Farmer led the Ospreys with 17 points.

It was domination from the start as FSU never trailed before shooting 50 percent from the field and outrebounding North Florida by 40, 62-22. FSU will now hit the road for the first time as it visits Jacksonville State on Sunday.

Between the Lines

In addition to basketball, FSU women’s tennis began the FSU All-Conference Showdown on Friday. FSU softball scrimmaged both Chipola College and Embry Riddle University. Both FSU’s men’s and women’s cross country teams finished fourth at the NCAA South Regional on Friday. FSU volleyball defeated Syracuse in four sets. FSU soccer opened the NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 shutout of Ole Miss.

On the Agenda

FSU football will visit Clemson in a contest that begins at 3:30 p.m. EST and airs on ESPN.

News and Notes

FSU is now a 15.5-point underdog against Clemson for Saturday.

FSU soccer will face Arizona in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats beat TCU on Friday night, 2-1.

FSU’s rally came up short on Saturday in a 31-14 loss at Clemson.

4-star athlete Marquez Ezzard decommitted from FSU on Saturday.
