The Daily Nole — Oct. 30, 2017: Jim McElwain Leaves Florida

Lead Story

Florida State’s most bitter rival will be looking for a fourth head coach since Jimbo Fisher took over at FSU.

On Sunday, it was reported that Florida and head coach Jim McElwain mutually agreed to part ways after McElwain had made claims that he had received death threats after a 3-3 start. The Gators fell to 3-4 with a 42-7 loss to now No. 2 Georgia on Saturday.

McElwain finishes 0-2 against FSU during his tenure at Florida. Serving as the interim will be defensive coordinator and former Miami head coach Randy Shannon. Shannon was 2-2 against Florida State as head coach of the Hurricanes.

Between the Lines

FSU softball faced Mississippi State in a scrimmage on Sunday. FSU soccer fell to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, 2-1. FSU volleyball lost to N.C. State in five sets.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s tennis participates in the USAT Pro Circuit on Monday.

News and Notes

The ACC will announce players of the week for various sports on Monday.

The ACC has given a 6-day hold for the start time and network of the Nov. 11 contest between Florida State and Clemson.
