Happy Halloween, Florida State fans. As you try to get through the day and a spooky football season, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. We will update the news and notes section of this post throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State redshirt sophomore safety Derwin James received plenty of preseason recognition and that has continued to midseason recognition.

On Monday, James was named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which annually goes to the nation’s best defensive player. James was previously named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation’s best defensive back.

No FSU player has ever won the Bednarik Award, which was first handed out in 1995. James’ 50 tackles this season ranks second for the Seminoles.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s tennis was in Birmingham for the USAT Pro Circuit on Monday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.
