Lead Story

After being named a Mid-Season All-American by multiple publications last week, Florida State redshirt sophomore safety Derwin James received some more recognition on Monday.

James was among 13 finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which annually goes to the nation’s best defensive back. Previous winners from FSU are Deion Sanders in 1988 and Terrell Buckley in 1991.

For the season, James leads FSU with 37 total tackles, including a team-high 25 solo stops. James has 1.5 tackles for loss and four pass break-ups. He’ll look to get the FSU defense on track as it visits Boston College on Friday night.
