It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As you wrap up your weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State lost to No. 1 Alabama in its season-opener on Saturday night, but the biggest loss may have come with the game already decided.

With FSU down 24-7 in the fourth quarter, redshirt sophomore quarterback Deondre Francois went down with an apparent knee injury and was carted off the field. In for Francois, came true freshman James Blackman — who head coach Jimbo Fisher intends to move forward with if Francois is out for an extended period of time, according to reports.

Blackman was a 3-star prospect out of Belle Glade, but at 6-5 and 185 pounds, has a load of potential. By entering the game on Saturday night, he became the first true freshman to take a snap at quarterback for FSU since Drew Weatherford in 2004 and he lasted just one play. The last true freshman to start a game for the Seminoles at quarterback was Chip Ferguson in 1985.

Between the Lines

FSU cross country competed in the Big Bend Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. FSU volleyball was defeated by Colorado State in straight sets. FSU football fell to Alabama on Saturday night, 24-7.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer will take on Kentucky on Sunday while FSU volleyball faces TCU. Both matches begin at 1 p.m. EST. The volleyball match will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

A number of former FSU players, including Kareem Are, Josue Matias, Roberto Aguayo, Marquez White Freddie Stevenson and Travis Rudolph were recently released by their NFL teams.

FSU quarterback Deondre Francois will miss the remainder of 2017 with a patella tendon injury.
