The day has finally arrived as No. 3 Florida State and No. 1 Alabama get set to do battle in Atlanta. The build-up has come with plenty of hype, speculation and insight.

Staff Keys to the Game for FSU vs. Alabama

In what will be our final piece regarding the contest before kickoff, here’s some key things of note for the contest. Most focus on FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher and his former boss, Alabama head coach Nick Saban:

  • Florida State is 9-1 against SEC opponents under Jimbo Fisher. The lone loss came to Florida in 2012.
  • Under head coach Nick Saban, Alabama is 5-2 against ACC opponents.
  • Saban is 10-0 against his former assistants. His most recent victory came over Florida and Jim McElwain in last season’s SEC Championship.
  • Both teams are undefeated in openers under their current head coaches. FSU’s last season-opening loss came to Miami in 2009. Alabama’s came in 2001 to UCLA.
  • Alabama’s only neutral site regular season loss under Saban came to Florida State in Jacksonville in 2007.
  • Florida State’s last win over a No. 1 team came against Florida in 1996.
  • Florida State is 1-2 in the city of Atlanta under Fisher.
  • Alabama is 11-1 in the city of Atlanta under Saban.
  • FSU’s last regular season loss on a neutral field came in Jacksonville against Southern Mississippi in 1989.
  • Florida State has won eight straight games over schools from Alabama. The last loss came to Auburn in 1990.
