It’s the weekend, Florida State fans and that means the first full slate of college football. As you eagerly await FSU and Alabama, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics as the news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Deondre Francois may be under center for Florida State against Alabama on Saturday night, but one of the greatest ever to play the position will be there as well.

Alabama native and 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston will be an honorary captain for Saturday night’s contest for the Seminoles as will 2015 Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry for Alabama. Winston was 26-1 as a starter for FSU and helped the Seminoles win the 2013 national title.

Winston went on to be selected first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015 and has since gone on to become the first player in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. Winston will be at Mercedes-Benz Stadium cheering on his alma mater on Saturday night, but that won’t be his last trip to the stadium in 2017. The Buccaneers will play there when they visit the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 26.
