Mitch White/FSU athletics

It’s Friday, Florida State fans, and that means we’re just one day away from the weekend and FSU’s football opener against Alabama. Keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics as we take you to the weekend. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

As if Florida State needed anything else working against it for the opener against No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, the Seminoles will be without two defensive backs expected to contribute.

Both cornerback Carlos Becker and safety Nate Andrews miss Saturday’s contest in Atlanta. Injuries have plagued Andrews the late couple seasons. He was given a medical redshirt last year after watching his year end to a pectoral injury and will be out Saturday with a leg issue.

Becker will miss the contest with an ankle injury that head coach Jimbo Fisher said occurred during practice. Both players had one interception last season, but neither were listed as starters when the team unveiled its depth chart earlier in the week.

Those are the only two new notable injuries to report.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU cross country opens its season with the Covered Bridge Open on Friday. FSU volleyball plays its home opener against UNC-Asheville at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

5-star guard Keldon Johnson is set to visit FSU the weekend of Sept. 8.
