Happy Father’s Day, Florida State fans. Keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State opened the College World Series on the wrong foot Saturday night and self-inflicted wounds were a big reason why.

In the Seminoles’ 5-4 loss to No. 4 LSU on Saturday night, FSU led most of the way, but in the end, errors and mistakes proved detrimental. LSU scored its first run in the bottom of the first on what looked like an inning-ending strikeout. FSU catcher Cal Raleigh couldn’t stop the breaking ball from trickling away and with no one ever covering the plate, Antoine Duplantis scored all the way from first.

In the eighth, FSU made two errors and three mistakes on one play which allowed the Tigers to tie the game. A relay throw looked to have LSU’s Cole Freeman gunned at the plate, but Raleigh dropped the ball which allowed him to score. LSU went ahead for good as Greg Deichmann singled home Duplantis the very next hitter.

Between the Lines

FSU’s loss to LSU in the College World Series was the only scheduled athletic event for Saturday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Sunday.
