The Daily Nole — June 19, 2017: FSU Alum Brooks Koepka Wins U.S. Open

Brooks Koepka finished with one of the best final scores in U.S. Open history on Sunday as the Florida State golf alum took home his first major.

Koepka shot a 67 for the day to finish -16 for the tournament in Erin Hills, Wisconsin. Koepka finished four strokes better than second-place finishers, Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harman.

The day began with Harman holding a 1-stroke lead, but Koepka was in or tied for first place most of the day. Koepka essentially put the match away with birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16.

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Sunday.

On the Agenda

Florida State will take on Cal State Fullerton in a College World Series elimination game at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN.

News and Notes

Louisville and Florida both won on Sunday to move to the winners’ bracket of the College World Series.

Drew Parrish will get the start for FSU on Monday.

Florida State defeated Cal State Fullerton in a College World Series elimination game on Monday to stave off elimination, 6-4.
