Lead Story

The Major League Baseball Draft finished up on Wednesday and Florida State was well-represented. The 3-day draft saw nine Seminoles get selected. Only Michigan, Texas, Chipola Junior College and Stanford had more.

After having no FSU players’ names called on Monday, infielder Taylor Walls and Dylan Busby went nine picks apart in the third round on Tuesday. It would be 23 rounds later before the next FSU player went, but they began to roll in after that.

Quincy Nieporte was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 26th round. The final six FSU players taken were all pitchers, beginning with Cobi Johnson in the 29th round. From there, it went Drew Carlton (32nd round), Alec Byrd (33rd round), Andrew Karp (34th round), Tyler Holton (35th round) and Jim Voyles (38th round).

The nine picks for FSU is the most selected since 1995 when the Seminoles had 10 players taken. Florida State hopes to maximize that talent as it takes on LSU in the first game of the College World Series on Saturday night.
