It’s Friday, Florida State fans. As you get ready to enjoy a big weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

One of golf’s legends toured Florida State’s Don Veller Seminole Golf Course on Thursday and is interested in doing his part to make the course legendary.

Jack Nicklaus, a winner of 18 majors, and his design team walked the course for three hours on Thursday and are coming up with plans to turn it into a Nicklaus Legacy Course. There is no timetable or deadline yet, according to a release. The FSU men’s and women’s golf teams both reached the NCAA Championships this year.

Nicklaus’ reason for picking Florida State should not be a surprise. The golf legend has had several grandchildren attend the school, including former tight end and 2014 John Mackey Award winner Nick O’Leary.

“We have a long history here and we enjoy it,” Nicklaus said in a release. “We love Florida State. It’s a great university and we’re honored to be part of it and doing the golf course.”

Between the Lines

FSU track and field finished the second day of the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday in 22nd place on the women’s side and tied for 32nd for the men’s.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will continue the NCAA Championships on Friday.
