The Daily Nole — June 8, 2017: Holton to Start Super Regional Opener

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. As the weekend and Tallahassee Super Regional near, we’ll try to keep you up on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

In an effort to avoid having to play with its back against the wall for multiple games again, Florida State will turn to its ace in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional.

Tyler Holton will get the start for the Seminoles on Saturday against Sam Houston State in the first game of a best-of-three Super Regional. Holton is 10-2 on the season with a 2.22 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 105 1/3 innings pitched.

The Seminoles won four straight games at the Tallahassee Regional to advance. Sam Houston State pulled off back-to-back 1-run wins over No. 5 national seed Texas Tech to get to Tallahassee. The first game of the Super Regional is Saturday at noon EST on ESPN2.

Between the Lines

FSU track and field finished tied for 28th after the first day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.

On the Agenda

The FSU track and field team will continue to compete in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday.

News and Notes

FSU’s 2017 Hall of Fame class was announced on Thursday.

According to reports, defensive end Keith Bryant is no longer with the FSU football team.

FSU football and track and field athlete, Carlos Becker, earned All-American honors by finishing seventh in the long jump at the NCAA Championships.

FSU pitcher Tyler Holton has been named a third-team All-American by Baseball America.

Linebacker Sh’Mar Kilby-Lane is no longer with the team, according to a source.

Florida State will visit Rutgers in the 2017 ACC/Big Ten Challenge, according to a release.
