The Daily Nole — June 6, 2017: FSU Makes Another Super Regional

It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. Keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics as we update the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

With a 6-0 win over Auburn on Monday night, Florida State clinched a 16th trip to the NCAA Super Regionals in 19 years, or since college baseball went to the current NCAA Tournament format. The only years where that did not happen were 2006, 2007 and 2014.

Things looked bleak last Friday as FSU dropped the opener of the Tallahassee Regional to Tennessee Tech, which forced the Seminoles to win four games in three days. They did just that, topping UCF on Saturday, Tennessee Tech and Auburn on Sunday and then Auburn again in a winner-take-all game on Monday night.

Florida State will move on to face Sam Houston State in a best-of-three series for the right to move on to the College World Series. The Bearkats advanced by knocking off No. 5 seed Texas Tech twice in a row to win the Lubbock Regional.

Between the Lines

Will Zirzow threw a 2-hit shutout in the decisive game of the Tallahassee Regional on Monday night as FSU baseball topped Auburn, 6-0.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

News and Notes

Florida State and Sam Houston State will open the Tallahassee Super Regional on Saturday at noon EST.
