The Daily Nole — June 5, 2017: FSU Meets Auburn in Decisive Game of Tallahassee Regional

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. For those of you returning to work, we’ll have the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The Tallahassee Regional has come down to one game as Florida State will take on Auburn in a contest where the winner will advance to the NCAA Super Regionals.

The Seminoles prolonged their season with two wins on Sunday. The final victory was a dramatic 8-7 win over Auburn in 10 innings.

The Tigers are 2-1 in the regional with wins over UCF and Tennessee Tech. After dropping the regional opener to Tennessee Tech, FSU has defeated each of the three other teams throughout the regional.

The winner of Monday’s contest will advance to face either Texas Tech or Sam Houston State in a best-of-three Super Regional. Monday’s game begins at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN2.

Between the Lines

After defeating Tennessee Tech, 5-3, to keep its season alive, FSU baseball defeated Auburn in 10 innings, 8-7.

On the Agenda

FSU’s contest with Auburn is the only athletic event scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

FSU head coach Mike Martin has not named a starter yet for Monday night’s contest, but said it will be a right-hander. Auburn will start either Gabe Klobosits or Ryan Watson.

FSU women’s track and field throwing coach Dorian Scott has been named Assistant Coach of the Year for the South Region by the USTFCCCA.

Will Zirzow threw a 2-hit shutout as Florida State defeated Auburn, 6-0, to win the Tallahassee Regional.

FSU will face Sam Houston State in a best-of-three Super Regional.
