The Daily Nole — May 12, 2017: FSU Has School-Record Four Women’s Golfers Named All-ACC

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. For those of you finishing up your work week, we’ll do our best to get you through it. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s golf team may be headed to the NCAA Championships for a second straight year, but the program made a little bit of history on Thursday.

The Seminoles had a school-record four golfers named to the All-ACC team. That group included Lydia Gumm, Matilda Castren as well as sisters Kim and Morgane Metraux. Head coach Amy Bond was also named the ACC Coach of the Year.

Among the 15 players represented, no team had more than FSU and only conference champion Duke had as many. The Seminoles notched a second straight trip to the NCAA Championships by finishing third at the NCAA Regional in Columbus earlier this week.

Between the Lines

Florida State softball defeated Virginia in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, 16-0.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will begin the ACC Championships on Friday. The FSU men and women’s tennis teams will compete in the NCAA Tournament. The men will face Arkansas while the women take on Arizona State. FSU softball takes on Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. EST on Raycom Sports Network. FSU baseball opens a 3-game series with Wake Forest at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU rookies Marquez White and Roderick Johnson have signed contracts with their NFL teams, per reports. Johnson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. White went to the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round.

Both the FSU men and women’s team advanced at the NCAA Tournament on Friday. The men defeated Arkansas in Fort Worth, 4-1. The women topped Arizona State in Auburn, 4-2.

Florida State softball advanced to the ACC Championship by beating Notre Dame in the semifinals on Friday, 6-0.

Friday’s contest Florida State and Wake Forest was suspended in the bottom of the fifth with Wake up, 4-2. It will resume at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday.
