The Daily Nole — May 11, 2017: FSU’s Burroughs, Warren Named Finalists for POY

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. As your work week winds down, we’ll do our best to keep you up on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated during the day.

Lead Story

A pair of Florida State softball players have been named among 10 finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year Award. The Seminoles and Arizona were the only schools to have two finalists.

Jessica Burroughs, a senior pitcher, was recognized as a finalist after posting a 23-4 record during the regular season with a splendid 1.08 ERA. Third baseman Jessica Warren also got the recognition as the junior hit .438 with 20 home runs and 62 RBIs during the regular season.

The top three finalists will be announced on May 24 and the winner will be announced on May 30. FSU kicks off the ACC Tournament in Chapel Hill on Thursday.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf team advanced to the NCAA Championships by finishing third in the NCAA Regional Championships in Columbus.

On the Agenda

FSU softball kicks off the ACC Tournament with a quarterfinal match-up against Pittsburgh. That begins at 11 a.m. EST and will air on Raycom Sports Network.

News and Notes

D1Baseball.com and Baseball America each have Florida State currently penciled into the Lexington Regional.

The ACC released its schedule of Notre Dame opponents through 2037. FSU will face Notre Dame eight times during that span.

FSU softball had six players represented on the All-ACC first team and took home four of the conference’s five awards.

FSU softball kicked off the ACC Tournament with a 16-0 win over Virginia during the quarterfinals on Thursday.

FSU men’s golfers, Cristobal Del Solar and Harry Ellis were each named to the All-ACC team on Thursday.

A school-record four FSU women’s golfers were named to the All-ACC on Thursday. Matilda Castren, Lydia Gumm, Kim Metraux and Morgane Metraux were all recognized. Amy Bond was named ACC Coach of the Year.
