The Daily Nole — May 8, 2017: FSU Softball Swept by Oregon

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. For those of you heading back to work, we’ll try to help get you through it by updating the news and notes section throughout the day to make sure you’re caught up on the latest.

Lead Story

Florida State softball let another late lead slip away on Sunday night in a 2-1 extra-inning loss to Oregon.

The Ducks were able to win the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth off the bat of Gwen Svekis to complete the 3-game sweep. Anna Shelnutt got the scoring started for FSU with a double to score Carsyn Gordon in the second. FSU held a 1-0 lead until Oregon evened things up in the fifth.

FSU missed an opportunity in the eighth as the Seminoles put runners at second and third with no one out, but could not get a run home. The Ducks ended the game an inning and a half later.

FSU closes the regular season 48-6-1 and will face Virginia in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, FSU baseball defeated Pacific, 5-3.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will be in Columbus for the NCAA Regionals.

News and Notes

Florida State remains unranked in the four polls tracked by TDN, but came in 25th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

FSU outfielder and leading hitter Rhett Aplin will miss the remainder of the year with a foot injury.

Will Zirzow will start against Jacksonville on Tuesday night.

ACC players of the week for various sports will be announced.
