The Daily Nole — March 16, 2017: FSU Softball Wins a Pair

The NCAA Tournament is finally here, Florida State fans. Before you get a chance to sit down and watch the Noles play, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

While the FSU baseball team didn’t have much success in Fort Myers on Wednesday, the FSU softball team had plenty. Florida State had one game called after six innings and another after five as it notched a pair of victories.

The first was a 9-1 decision over Canisius. Cali Harrod was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for FSU in the victory, which was called after six innings.

The Seminoles then needed only five innings to crush host Florida Gulf Coast, 13-1. Harrod drove in four in the second contest while Ellie Cooper, Sydney Broderick and Zoe Casas each plated a pair. Nine of the 13 FSU runs came in the third inning.

With the pair of victories, FSU improved to 25-1-1 on the season. FSU returns home this weekend for three games against Notre Dame.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, FSU’s swimming and diving team competed in the NCAA Championships. The FSU baseball team was defeated by Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, 5-2.

On the Agenda

The NCAA swimming and diving championships continue in Indianapolis on Thursday. The FSU beach volleyball team will face top-ranked USC in a national championship rematch. The FSU men’s basketball team will be in Orlando to face Florida Gulf Coast in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

News and Notes

Friday’s baseball game at Virginia Tech has been moved from 6 p.m. EST to 1 p.m. EST.

FSU hoops defeated Florida Gulf Coast in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night, 86-80.
