The Daily Nole — Feb. 26, 2018: FSU Men’s Golf Dominates Home Tournament

Lead Story

Florida State’s men’s golf team rode a masterful second round on Saturday to an easy victory at the Seminole Invitational at Golden Eagle Country Club.

The Seminoles wrapped up the tournament on Sunday at -20 — nine strokes better than second-place Jacksonville. FSU was fourth after the first round, but shot a combined 270 in the second round to seize control of the 14-team tournament and never looked back.

In addition to taking the team title, FSU’s John Pak was the individual winner at -8 for the Seminole Invitational. That was three stokes ahead of Nicholls State’s Albert Badosa-Soler, James Madison’s Nacho Montero and teammate Jamie Li. Up next for the men’s golf team is a trip to Houston for the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, which begins on Sunday.

Between the Lines

In addition to golf, FSU baseball defeated Troy on Sunday, 9-4, to complete a 3-game sweep. FSU women’s hoops held off Georgia Tech, 64-61. FSU women’s tennis fell to Georgia Tech, 4-3. FSU men’s basketball was embarrassed by N.C. State, 92-72.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will be in Houston for the Dickson Invitational, which begins on Monday.

News and Notes

FSU women’s hoops will be the No. 3 seed in the ACC Tournament and begin play on Friday.

FSU men’s hoops has fallen out of the AP Poll after losing to N.C. State on Sunday.

The ACC will name players of the week for a number of sports on Monday.

FSU baseball moved up one spot in this week’s D1Baseball.com Poll. The Seminoles remained third in the Baseball America Poll. FSU moved up one spot from fourth to third in the Collegiate Baseball Poll.
