The Daily Nole — May 22, 2017: FSU Women’s Golf Needs a Comeback

It’s a new week, Florida State fans. For those of you trying to make it through this Monday, we’ll have the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After rain wiped out Saturday’s second round, Florida State’s women’s golf team has the odds stacked against it in keeping its season alive.

With the top eight teams advancing in Illinois, FSU is tied for 19th and 16 strokes back of eighth-place Miami. Florida State currently sits at +59 for the tournament. Northwestern leads at +23.

Individually, Wake Forest’s Jennifer Cupcho leads at even par. Kim Ketraux, who is tied for 59th, is the top performer so far for FSU at +14.

Following Monday’s action, the field of teams will be reduced to eight.

Between the Lines

Aside from golf, FSU softball defeated Georgia 8-5 to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals.

On the Agenda

Golf is the only scheduled FSU athletic event for Monday.

News and Notes

FSU remains unranked in the Baseball America, D1Baseball.com and Collegiate Baseball Polls. FSU is is ranked 27th in the NCBWA Poll.

FSU pitcher Tyler Holton tied a conference record by being named ACC Pitcher of the Week for a fifth time.

Athlon Sports ranked FSU third in its preseason poll, released on Monday.

3-star athlete Jashaun Corbin has committed to Florida State.

FSU center Alec Eberle was among 63 centers named to the Rimington Trophy spring watch list on Monday.

FSU softball will face No. 13 national seed LSU in a best-of-three Super Regional.

FSU women’s golf finished tied for 20th at the NCAA Championships, meaning the Seminoles’ season is over.
