The Daily Nole — Feb. 20, 2019: FSU Women’s Tennis Tops Florida

Lead Story

In a match-up of top-25 teams, Florida State women’s tennis notched a third straight win over rival Florida on Tuesday evening in Gainesville, 4-1.

After FSU scored the doubles point, Carla Touly doubled the lead for FSU with a 6-1, 6-1 win over McCartney Kessler. Nandini Das pushed the FSU lead to 3-0 with a straight set win.

After Florida’s Ida Jarlskog defeated Florida State’s Ana Oparenovic to put the Gators on the board, Emmanuelle Salas clinched the match for the Seminoles with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Marlee Zein. With the win, FSU improves to 9-1 and will return home to face Duke on Friday.

Between the Lines

In addition to women’s tennis, FSU basketball topped Clemson on Tuesday evening, 77-64.

On the Agenda

FSU baseball will visit Jacksonville on Wednesday in a contest originally scheduled for Tuesday. The game begins at 6 p.m. EST. FSU swimming and diving begins the ACC Championships in Greensboro. FSU softball plays host to South Alabama.

News and Notes

FSU softball’s Zoe Casas was named ACC Player of the Week on Tuesday and named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week.

FSU softball is No. 1 in both the NFCA and USA Softball Polls.

FSU women’s hoops fell one spot to No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Former FSU wide receiver George Campbell will enroll at Penn State.

FSU baseball’s contest at Jacksonville was postponed for the second night in a row.
