The Daily Nole — Nov. 26, 2021: FSU Women’s Hoops Fall to BYU in St. Pete Classic

Lead Story

Florida State women’s hoops took its first loss of the season on Thursday night. To kick off the St. Pete Showcase, the 17th-ranked Seminoles came up short against BYU, 61-54.

FSU was within striking distance most of the way, but an 11-5 run by the Cougars to open the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 13. The Seminoles got as close as four, but the final three points belonged to BYU.

FSU held the edge on the boards and the Cougars to 37% shooting. The Seminoles however, turned the ball over 25 times.

Sammie Puisis led FSU with 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting and 4-for-8 from deep. She was the only FSU player to make a 3-pointer. Morgan Jones added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Shaylee Gonzales tallied a game-high 24 points to lead BYU.

With the loss, FSU falls to 4-1. FSU resumes the St. Pete Showcase on Saturday against Purdue.

FSU’s women’s hoops contest was the lone scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer will host Michigan in the Elite Eight on Friday at 2 p.m. ET. FSU volleyball concludes its regular season at home against Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. ET. Both contests stream on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU remains a 2.5-point underdog for Saturday’s contest at Florida.
